The ICMM Biennial congress is the pre-eminent international meeting of maritime museums. The 2026 iteration will be held from 13-18 September at the Australian National Maritime Museum, the first Biennial Congress to be held in Australia.

Renowned for the beauty of its harbour, participants will be able to discover the relationship of First Nations peoples to the bamal (earth) and badu (water), as well as explore significant sites of maritime history and archaeology in Sydney.

The theme for this year’s conference is Maritime Museums in Action – Moving Forward with Courage and Conviction.

Members of the Australian Maritime Museums Council will be in attendance to meet with international delegates and participate in the full program of lectures, workshops, and associated activities.
