Report on the Australian Maritime Museums Council 2025 AGM
The Australian Maritime Museums Council held its 2025 Annual General Meeting on 12th November 2025, both online and in-person at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.
This meeting was a great opportunity for AMMC members and Board representatives to reflect upon successes from the past year and begin planning for 2026, strengthening ties between our respective institutions which care for Australia’s distributed maritime heritage.
Key outcomes from the AGM are summarised below:
-
Minutes from the 2024 AGM, the 2024–25 Activity Report, and the 2024-25 Financial Report were approved. The AMMC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting members and the broader maritime heritage sector.
-
Jared Archibald (Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory) was re-elected, and Rosemarie Cooper (Bass Strait Maritime Museum) was elected, both for the position of Elected Institutional Delegate on the AMMC Board.
-
Daina Fletcher was formally confirmed as an Ex-Officio member of the AMMC Board, in recognition of her longstanding contributions to Australian maritime heritage and the AMMC in particular.
-
The AMMC Board expressed sincere thanks to outgoing President Mark Hosking for his leadership and contributions, including the new AMMC website and a successful 2025 seminar program.
-
Amendments to the AMMC Constitution were adopted, allowing the position of Secretary to be appointed from outside the AMMC Board, and increasing the term of Office Bearers from two to three years.
-
The AMMC will reinstate membership fees from 2026, adopting a tiered structure based upon institutions’ staffing levels.
Voluntary organisations (0 paid staff): $50/year.
Small professional organisations (1-10 paid staff): $100/year.
Large professional organisations (11+ paid staff): $250/year.
Membership fees help cover essential costs such as maintaining our website and communications, supporting members, and ensuring the organisation can continue its work in a sustainable and professional way.
-
On behalf of the Australian Maritime Museums Council Board, we would like to thank our members and others in the Australian maritime heritage community for their ongoing support and commitment to preserving and promoting the history of our shared oceans and waterways. We look forward to another year of engagement and advocacy with our colleagues across Australia, and wish you all a safe and pleasant holiday season.
