Become a member of the Australian Maritime Museums Council
The Australian Maritime Museums Council (AMMC) connects museums, heritage organisations, professionals, volunteers and supporters who share a commitment to preserving and promoting Australia’s maritime heritage.
Membership provides a practical way to take part in a national maritime heritage network, exchange knowledge, build professional connections and contribute to a stronger collective voice for the sector.
Membership is open year-round
Applications may be submitted online at any time. Membership is confirmed only after the application is approved and the applicable membership fee is paid.
Who can apply?
The AMMC has three categories of membership:
Institutional members: An Australian maritime museum or like institution, that is dedicated to the collection, conservation, and/or exhibition of Australia’s maritime heritage, and/or research maritime heritage, and/or conserves and operates heritage vessel/s. They must be a legal entity operating on a not-for profit-basis. Institutional members have voting rights.
Individual members: Individuals that are the staff or members of maritime museums or like institutions and/or support the preservation of Australia’s maritime heritage and the objectives of Company. Individual members have voting rights.
Associate members: Companies, clubs, associations, and organisations, that support the preservation of Australia’s maritime heritage and the objectives of the Company. Associate Members do not have voting rights.

Connection: Meet and exchange ideas with people and organisations working across Australia’s maritime heritage sector.
Community: Be part of a nationwide network encompassing major museums, regional and volunteer-run museums, maritime heritage organisations and vessel-preservation groups.
Representation: Contribute to a collective voice supporting maritime museums, maritime heritage places, collections and heritage vessels.
Participation: Receive invitations to workshops, programs, and seminars across the country.
Professional development: Access online resources, share ideas, and learn from the experience of other members.
Communication: Receive news and updates from the AMMC, and have your museum listed on our national page.
Membership fees
All AMMC members must pay an annual membership fee.
This fee supports the AMMC’s activities, including workshops and events, providing professional advice and support, advocacy and representation, administration and insurance, and website upkeep for sharing news, information, and opportunities.
The approved schedule of fees is determined by an organisation’s staffing levels:
Volunteer organisation (0 paid staff): $50 p/a
Small professional organisation (1-10 paid staff): $100 p/a
Large professional organisation: (10+ paid staff): $250 p/a
How do I apply?
The AMMC is an Incorporated Association based in New South Wales, Australia. Becoming a member of the Incorporated Association involves a two-stage process: Application and payment. Please see below for further details.
Submit an application form: Using the online form below, provide your details, select a membership category, and explain how you meet the membership criteria.
Application form is reviewed by the AMMC Executive Committee. We may request additional information from you, so an assessment can be made.
Application outcome advised by the AMMC Company Secretary. If successful, you will receive a welcome letter and instructions to complete payment.
Pay your annual membership fee using the instructions supplied with your welcome letter.
Membership is confirmed once your application is approved, and payment received.
