An update from the Australian Maritime Museums Council
Below is a letter from AMMC President Mark Hosking, providing an update on our activities and a point of contact for any parties wishing to get in touch. A copy of this letter can also be found in the ‘Newsletters’ section of this website.
Dear Maritime Museum Industry Colleagues,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Australian Maritime Museums Council (AMMC), the representative industry body for maritime museums across Australia and its territories.
Working in partnership with the Australian National Maritime Museum, the AMMC is coordinating a range of activities for 2025 – 2026 that seeks to support the work of preserving and presenting the nation’s maritime heritage. These include:
Communicating and information sharing through our new website: Australian Maritime Museums Council*.
Facilitating and supporting face to face meetings with industry colleagues at national and international events including the Albany Maritime Festival and the International Congress of Maritime Museums Congress.
Obtaining the latest news and views on industry-specific grant and general programs including the Maritime Museums of Australia Project Support Scheme, the Australian Register of Historic Vessels and Lloyd’s Register Foundation grants.
Participating in training opportunities such as the annual Maritime Museum Administrators Course sponsored by the Australian National Maritime Museum.
We are keen to discuss how the Australian Maritime Museums Council can help your institution and assist participation in the program of activities. We will be in contact soon with further opportunities, and a request for information so we can make sure our records are up-to-date.
In the meantime, please reach out if we can be of support to your organisation.
Replies should be sent to ammc@sea.museum** and will be processed by Liam McGeagh, ANMM Outreach Program Coordinator.
Thank you for all your contributions to preserving our shared maritime heritage.
Mark Hosking
Chair, Australian Maritime Museums Council
